take me for my pieces,
As I don’t know the last time I felt whole…
I mean, I am a hole, or was a hole
Dug into the ground of youth,
stuffed full of fantasy novels
and Ritz crackers,
Promised a future of magnificence
But never taught how to use it.
Left on my own,
Seeds planted for potential growth
Where I could be
Everything I’d ever wanted to be
and more.
“Grow,” they told me,
“Into a tree!
Larger, more beautiful
than anything you’ve ever seen!”
But when I grew,
I grew into a bush-
A bush full of fantasy novels,
and Ritz crackers,
A bush that didn’t know how
To take advantage
of an opportunity.
And they were surprised!
