I Found It

I found it, you know?
You had to have known I would.
It was there, under your chin
Tucked away like an obscure mole.
I found it by looking in a mirror.
Your eyes staring back at me,
Smoldering- I raised your chin,
My chin,
And found it.
The courage you tried to steal.
You had to have known I would…
I am not so easily manipulated.
You taught me that.
You taught me a lot of things.
And there, beneath your chin,
my chin,
Our eyes staring at each other,
I found the one thing you couldn’t teach.
Something I was born with.
There, just raising my chin an inch,
I found it.
