My Daughter

Your were once an infant, crying in the night.
I feared you, like anyone fears the darkness.
I feared you would consume my life,
that there would be nothing left untouched.
I’d wile way my days as a slave to sticky hands,
hungry calls,
And nightmares leading you to my bed.
You’ve done just that-
And, somehow, I’ve loved every moment of it.
